The Pellet or Briquette Quality Certificate can be issued for a specific type of fuel, and the certificate holder can be the manufacturer, importer, or seller of the product.
The certificate is awarded only for a specific type of fuel product that is under continuous supervision and control of the certifying unit and the certificate holder, indicating that the certified pellet meets the requirements of a given class.
Companies holding the PQC certificate, are required to conduct continuous random checks of the parameters of the product covered by the program. This ensures that the recipient can be confident that the pellet or briquette has the appropriate properties.
Until 2021, pellet certification was conducted according to the standard: EN 14961, however, the current applicable standard is EN ISO 17225.
Pellet Quality Certificate - Briquette - PQC Certificate EN ISO 17225-2:2021
Pellet / Briquette Class
Physical properties of pellets according to EN ISO 17225
In addition to the requirements listed above, during certification, the assessing unit takes into account the requirements of REGULATION ON QUALITY REQUIREMENTS FOR PELLETS AND BRIQUETTES dated 24.05.2025
Note:
Transitional provisions will apply until the end of 2025.
Briquettes or pellets produced before June 1, 2025, may be sold until the end of the current year, provided they meet the quality standards of previous legal acts.
Certification
Certification is carried out in the following stages according to the standard EN ISO 17225-2:2021:
Stage 1.
Analysis and selection of guidelines applicable to the product / analysis of guidelines applied by the Client.
Stage 2.
Selection of the method for assessing product conformity.
Stage 3.
Conducting conformity assessment and all required controls. Assigning Pellet or Briquette Class.
Stage 4.
A positive assessment result is the basis for issuing the Pellet Quality Certificate.
Stage 5.
Quality supervision of pellets and ongoing control.
How to obtain a Pellet or Briquette Quality Certificate.
The first step in certification is to submit an application. After determining the certification costs and signing the certification agreement, the required documents and test reports must be provided. In principle, applying for a certificate usually consists of an audit part (mainly confirming compliance with the accepted requirements), a testing part (raw material tests, etc.), and a verification part (conducted after the certificate has been awarded).
